It Was a Great Experience!
In late July, Sun City Roofing replaced our original shingles, which were old and damaged from last year’s storms. This work was done during this year’s Arizona’s monsoon season because it could no longer wait. We choose Sun City Roofing because an affiliated company, Desert Mesa Painting, did an excellent exterior paint job earlier.
Their proprietor, Joe, was very responsive. After inspection, he wrote an itemized estimate. He was also expedient in dealing with our homeowners’ association. Joe’s team promptly stripped the old shingles and put down an underlayment protection material. That night, a windstorm came up with 40 mph gusts, and lifted several areas of underlayment, exposing the wood to possible rainwater. I called Joe that evening, and the next morning, his crew reattached the underlayment. Unbelievably, that second night, another severe windstorm raised additional protection areas. I phoned again, and again his crew made a prompt repair.
On Sunday night, a storm hit with winds and then rain. In a few areas where wood became exposed, some water trickled in and left spots on the garage ceiling.
The next day, the shingles were delivered. Then, a roofing crew of 6 – 8 men completed the shingle installation in one day. I’ve not seen this level of performance before, but the crew was organized and the work was sound. My ground-based inspection didn’t spot any deficiencies. Joe explained how he emphasizes quality. His lead man has been employed for over 10 years. I have waited for over a month to watch for latent problems, but none have appeared.
Conclusion: This job’s difficulties were caused by my poor timing in starting the roofing job during monsoon season, and the ensuing weather-related difficulties. I don’t fault Sun City Roofing for this; in fact, I was pleased with their prompt emergency responses. Local readers will realize how unpredictable and severe Arizona’s monsoon season can be.
